A Portuguese in Israel

The composition of this stunner is special, almost unusual. The Yarden winery is ideally suited for international all-rounders. Think Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, or Chardonnay. However, Yarden 2T is a blend of exceptional grape varieties, namely Tinto Cao and Touriga Nacional. While many may not be familiar with it, these two grape varieties are world-renowned. These two top grapes form the foundation of Port. Indeed, a Portuguese product. Besides Port, these red grapes also produce red wine from regions like the Douro Valley, a prime region in northern Portugal. When Yarden began experimenting, the winemaker discovered that these two exceptional grape varieties produced exceptional wines. The result is impressive. Yarden 2T is the crown jewel from the Yarden cellars. A successful Portuguese blend, from the land of Israel!

Enjoy the Yarden 2T

Enjoy it, because the yield and production of Yarden 2T are very low. The vineyards where the Touriga Nacional and Tinto Cao are planted are among the highest Yarden has to offer, at an altitude of 1200 meters. The climate and terroir at this altitude ensure that the grapes develop optimally. After harvest and pressing, the Yarden 2T is aged for at least 18 months in French oak barrels and another 6 months in bottle. These are minimum requirements. The bottles only leave the cellars with the explicit permission of the Yarden cellar master. Time to enjoy. And enjoy it certainly is with this Yarden 2T. On the nose, the red wine is powerful and spicy. You smell a heavy yet broad bouquet of dark fruit, violets, and chocolate. Time to take a sip. Every sip is a huge celebration. You clearly detect the spice on the palate. You also taste the bitterness of the chocolate. Take another sip, and various flavor nuances will celebrate on your tongue. You'll recognize notes of cherry, plum, floral, and oak. Yarden 2T is a success from start to finish. A flavor explosion you'll never forget.
