Abadía Retuerta Le Domaine Blanco
Abadía Retuerta Le Domaine Blanco comes from a historic estate in Castilla y León where wine has been produced for over eight centuries around the ancient abbey along the Golden Mile of the Duero River. The wine team, led by Ángel Anocíbar, aims to express the estate's distinct personality in every wine, and Le Domaine Blanco is its signature white wine. What exactly is Abadía Retuerta Le Domaine Blanco? It's an oak-aged blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Verdejo with a pure, aromatic character and a remarkably fresh, lively structure.
Vineyards and region
Abadía Retuerta Le Domaine Blanco hails from Spain, from Castilla y León, in the Duero region known for its powerful red wines but increasingly also for its high-quality whites. The estate is located on the prestigious stretch often called the Golden Mile of the Duero, where several top-tier estates are concentrated. Since 2022, Abadía Retuerta has held its own Protected Designation of Origin, Abadía Retuerta DOP, thus recognizing the estate as an independent appellation. The vineyards benefit from warm summer days, cool nights, and a mix of stony and calcareous soils, resulting in grapes with abundant flavor, good ripeness, and energetic acidity.
Vinification and maturation
Le Domaine Blanco is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Verdejo, two varietals that complement each other beautifully in aroma and structure. After harvest, the grapes are carefully pressed and fermented under controlled temperatures to preserve the pure, floral, and citrus aromas. The wine then matures for six months in French oak barrels, during which it develops additional depth and texture without losing its freshness. The combination of oak aging and fresh acidity results in a white wine with 13.5% alcohol that is both aromatic and tightly balanced, with a long, mineral finish.
Grape composition
Sauvignon Blanc – Abadía Retuerta
Sauvignon Blanc forms the aromatic backbone of Le Domaine Blanco, with delicate notes of white flowers, elderflower and citrus, and the fresh acidity that gives the wine its lively character.
Verdejo – Abadía Retuerta
Verdejo complements perfectly with added depth, subtle spiciness and riper fruit, making the wine fuller on the palate and supporting the oak aging even better.
Tasting notes and serving suggestions
Abadía Retuerta Le Domaine Blanco is pure and bright in the glass, with a pale yellow color and shimmering reflections. The nose reveals delicate aromas of white flowers, elderflower, and acacia, complemented by refreshing hints of ginger and citrus. The palate is remarkably clean and precise, with a fresh yet well-integrated acidity that creates tension and balance. The finish is lively and elegant, with a lingering impression of citrus and a soft spiciness. This wine is best served at 8 to 10°C (46 to 50°F), for example, with grilled white fish, shellfish such as oysters or shrimp, sushi, Thai or Vietnamese dishes with ginger and lime, or with fresh salads featuring green asparagus or goat cheese.
