From vineyard to bottle

The origin, grapes and craftsmanship behind this wine.

A perfect balance of sweet and sour. This sweet Dulce Natural is the newest wine in Portillo's line and is made from the Sauvignon Blanc grape. It's a refreshing, medium-sweet Sauvignon Blanc with a light green-gold color. The natural sweetness of the Portillo Dulce Natural Sauvignon Blanc comes from stopping the wine's fermentation early. Stopping this process early prevents all the sugars in the wine from being converted into alcohol. This results in a sweeter flavor and a lower alcohol content. Salentein produces a wide range of wines, including this Dulce Natural Sauvignon Blanc. Each wine is tailored to a specific need, from a dry white to a full-bodied red. This Portillo series takes its name from the historic mountain pass between the Andes and the Uco Valley in Argentina. The grapes are grown in the high-altitude vineyards of the Uco Valley in Mendoza. This is the only valley in this region with a cool climate, and the vines, which average thirty years old, benefit greatly from this.

Salentein is owned by Dutch businessman Mijndert Pon and was founded in 1992. This striking vineyard is designed in the shape of a cross. Each wing houses a small, two-story winery. The stainless steel tanks for cooled fermentation are located on the ground floor. One floor below, eight meters underground, are oak barrels for aging the wine. Gravity is used to transfer wine from the tanks to wooden barrels.

Because the Portillo Dulce Natural is a semi-sweet white wine, it's versatile. It pairs perfectly with both sweet and savory dishes. This white wine has a lovely soft and full-bodied sweet flavor. The aroma reveals aromas of fruit like peach, grapefruit, pineapple, and banana. The palate is soft and slightly sweet with plenty of fruity notes, including peach, banana, and pineapple. The use of Sauvignon Blanc grapes also gives this white wine a refreshing freshness, making it unique and truly special.
