Benguela Cove's vineyards benefit from the unique conditions of the estate's location on the ocean's edge on South Africa's southern coast. The southeasterly sea breeze, cooled by the Benguela Current flowing from Antarctica, cools the grapes at night after the hot summer days. This is irrigated by above-average rainfall, ensuring perfect viticulture.
The grapes for this stylish Sauvignon Blanc are harvested at peak ripeness and completely destemmed upon arrival at the winery. This is followed by several hours of skin contact before fermentation, controlled by cooling, begins in stainless steel tanks and barrels (25 percent new wood). After alcoholic fermentation is complete, the wine is left on the lees for eight months to preserve its beautiful complexity.
The result is a radiant Benguela Cove Sauvignon Blanc with an inviting bouquet of green figs, green peppers, and sweet tropical fruit, along with subtle hints of flint and juicy lemon drops. On the palate, this attractive and stylish Sauvignon Blanc from cool Walker Bay presents itself with intense tropical notes of pineapple and lemongrass, as well as pleasantly balanced acidity. A white wine of exquisite grace and finesse!
