One of the most beloved Dutch wines is this Apostelhoeve Pinot Gris Barriques. Barriques, you guessed it, because some of this wine is aged in oak barrels from Frans Makelaardij. This is quite special, as only a limited number of bottles of this magnificent wine are ever released! Every year, the entire Apostelhoeve harvest sells out, which is no surprise, as the quality is highly regarded.
Wood-aged Pinot Gris
Not much of this wine is made; only a few barrels are filled with Pinto Gris. Winemaker Mathieu Hulst also checks annually whether the wine is suitable for aging in wooden barrels. Because of this, the wine may not be produced one year because the juice is not suitable. The name Barriques, of course, derives from its several months of aging in French oak barrels. This gives the Pinto Gris a new dimension and more power. What does the Apostelhoeve Pinot Gris Barriques taste like?
On the nose, this Pinot Gris offers aromas of yellow fruit like apricots, peaches, and yellow plums. There's also a touch of vanilla and toast, which is naturally derived from its aging in wooden barrels. The taste is quite an experience, ripe and round with plenty of hints of roasted nuts, yellow fruit, vanilla, and light woody nuances. On the back of the palate, it also offers hints of apricots, caramel, toast, and pineapple. The finish is long-lasting with a slightly sweet and toasted note. What do we eat with the Pinot Gris Barriques?
Yes, the wine itself is a feast for the eyes, and you'll be enchanted by the beautiful flavors of Maastricht, where it's grown. But this white wine pairs beautifully with oriental cuisine, sushi, and curries. BBQ asparagus or a piece of smoked salmon are also delicious pairings with this Apostelhoeve Pinot Gris Barriques.Product details
