La Madrague Méditerranée Rosé 2024 is a light, thirst-quenching Provence rosé for warm days, a relaxed aperitif, and grilled or seafood dishes. This cuvée stands out for its direct style, with peach and refreshing citrus fruit in a pale pink, easy-to-drink glass. The wine is deliberately classified under IGP Méditerranée. What is IGP Méditerranée? This is a broad protected geographical indication in Southeastern France, formerly known as Vin de Pays de Méditerranée.
Vineyards and Region
The strength of this rosé lies strongly in its coastal location within Provence.
- Location / Origin: Domaine de la Madrague is located in the communes of La Croix-Valmer and Gassin, directly by the beaches of Gigaro, near Saint-Tropez. This gives this wine a much more precise Provençal origin than the broad IGP on the label alone indicates.
- Regional Context: The estate is situated in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, in a protected location within the Conservatoire du littoral and the Port-Cros National Park. This places La Madrague in a distinctly coastal zone of Provence.
- Soil: The vineyards are located on a Mediterranean subsoil where nature and soil life are visibly central to the work on the estate. Within Provence, such dry, poor soils are well suited for rosé with a light, fresh style.
- Vineyard & Harvest: The estate consciously works on soil life and natural balance, partly with draft horses in the vineyard. This suits an estate where sustainability and vineyard work are clearly part of its identity.
Grape Composition
The blend follows the classic southern rosé palette of Provence.
- Grenache Noir – IGP Méditerranée: Grenache Noir forms part of the blend and logically fits the sunny, fruity profile of this rosé.
- Syrah – IGP Méditerranée: Syrah completes the blend and gives this cuvée an extra foundation within a typical Southern French rosé composition.
- Cinsault – IGP Méditerranée: Cinsault is among the grape choices for this wine and aligns well with the light, supple style for which Provence rosé is known.
Tasting Notes and Serving Suggestions
Pale pink in the glass, with fruity notes of peach and a fresh citrus lift. On the palate, this rosé comes across as smooth and thirst-quenching, precisely the type of wine that finds its place directly on a sunny terrace or alongside a seafood platter. The finish remains light, refreshing, and very pleasantly drinkable.
- Serving Temperature: 8–10 °C works best here, as this range keeps the citrus fruit fresh and beautifully brings out the light, summery character of the wine.
- Dishes: Seafood, grilled dishes, and a sunny aperitif moment naturally pair well, as this rosé remains light, fruity, and refreshing.
