Vintage Report

The 2021 vintage in the Southern Rhône was rated an outstanding 94 points by Robert Parker. The wines from this vintage are characterized as early-maturing and very approachable for consumption.
Famille Perrin's Vacqueyras is a superb example of Grenache-based wines from the southern Rhône Valley, boasting impressive aromatic expression, a structured body, and excellent aging potential. A small percentage of Syrah is added to enhance the wine's characteristic aromas of chocolate, cherry, and fig.

Perrin's quality vineyards

The Château de Beaucastel has existed since the early 17th century, but it wasn't until 1909 that it was owned by the Perrin family. They oversaw a massive transformation of the then 100 hectares. Now, more than a century later, the fifth generation is at the helm, managing 325 hectares of vineyards. They've purchased several plots in the southern Rhône. Today, they operate in the Côtes du Rhône Villages, Vinsobres, Cairanne, Rasteau, Gigondas, Vacqueyras, and even Beaumes-de-Venise and Tavel. Their philosophy is that you can make good wine by allowing the grapes to flourish in the best possible natural conditions. Nothing is left to chance.

Manual harvest for Famille Perrin Les Christins Vacqueyras

The grapes come from a well-maintained 8-hectare vineyard in the commune of Sarrines. The vineyards are situated on stony terraces with a sandy-clay layer, resulting in a fleshy wine. The grapes are harvested by hand at peak ripeness. They are then selected and vinified together. After crushing, the grapes undergo a month of temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation with wild yeasts in large concrete vats and large wooden barrels. The grapes are then pressed and transferred to concrete vats and wooden barrels for malolactic fermentation and aging. After 10 months, the wine is filtered and bottled. The Les Christins Vacqueyras has a deep purple color with violet highlights. The nose offers aromas of black cherries, figs, chocolate, and spices. The palate reveals black fruit, black olives, and pepper.
