It is made from three distinct yet complementary grape varieties: Roussanne, Marsanne, and Viognier. These were grown on clay-limestone and marl soils, ensuring the right humidity and retaining the sun's warmth. Winemaker Nicolas Vellas expressed all his artistry by using traditional winemaking techniques and aging part of the blend in barrels.

The ideal conditions for Les Hortes Du Loup

Four generations ago, the Vignobles Vellas winery began producing wines. Today, Nicolas Vellas is at the helm. The tradition has been passed down through generations, and that is perhaps the winery's strength. The most important family property is the Mas du Pont estate. This is the center of all activity. It is located in the towns of Teyran and Crès, near Montpellier, between Pic St. Loup and the Mediterranean Sea. The Pic Saint-Loup vineyard, planted on predominantly limestone soils, lies in a landscape of scrubland and pine forests, a succession of ridges and valleys, far from major valleys. The climate here is cooler and wetter than in the rest of the Languedoc. The rain, which falls in spring and autumn, allows the vines to avoid drought and water stress; they allow for high-density plantings, a factor in concentration.
