German wines are on the rise, and at the forefront of this procession is Steffen Winery. This family business from Trittenheim has been active in German winemaking for over 200 years. The winery was founded by Johann Steffen as early as 1794. Many generations later, father Hans Steffen and son Roman Steffen are now at the helm of this German powerhouse. Steffen distinguishes itself not only for its quality and sustainability, but also for its family roots. Johann Steffen could never have founded the winery with the help of family, and that is why the family bond remains paramount within Steffen Winery.

The vineyards along the Moselle

The winery is situated along the banks of the Mosel River, in the village of Trittenheim, about a half-hour drive from Trier. Along the steep slopes of this unique and important river, grapes grow in abundance, many of whose vineyards are owned by the Steffen winery. However, the winery also has several vineyards in Rheinhessen, about two hours east of its home port. This is also where the Grauburgunder grapes, used for the Steffen ST 52 Grauburgunder, are grown.
