The 2022 vintage in South Africa achieved an excellent score of 92 points. The wines from this year are characterized as still youthful and tannic, with great potential for further aging.

A powerful wine, this Kleine Zalze from the Vineyard Selection series, made entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. A wine with the typical fullness of Stellenbosch in both aroma and taste. Nestled among the beautiful slopes, diverse soil structures, and ideal weather conditions, the magnificent Kleine Zalze winery shines. Just a few kilometers outside Stellenbosch, South Africa, they produce a fruity range of wines. The grapes enjoy a fresh sea breeze, resulting in delicate flavors.

Quality wines from Kleine Zalze

The South African winery with German roots has existed for 300 years and has always been family-owned. The winery's hard work and innovative development have resulted in excellent quality wines. The wines are popular and sought after worldwide. Kobus Basson is currently at the helm. He believes that success begins in the vineyard. Here, he lays the foundation for the fine wines that regularly win awards. At this winery, every wine lover will find their favorite wine. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are sourced from our own vineyards, along with a few select parcels from other Stellenbosch vineyards. The various blocks were harvested at peak ripeness and vinified separately. After careful selection in the vineyard, the grapes are hand-sorted at the winery, ensuring only the finest fruit remains. The grapes are then destemmed and transferred to stainless steel tanks for fermentation. After primary fermentation, the grapes are gently pressed and aged in French oak barrels for 18 months.

What does the Kleine Zalze Cabernet Sauvignon Vineyard Selection taste like?

As soon as we pour this Cabernet Sauvignon, we're immediately struck by a robust aroma of black cherries, black plums, and cigar boxes. This is supported by hints of cedar and oak, with fine tannins and a lingering finish. A full-bodied, rich wine that retains the elegance typical of Kleine Zalze wines. A powerful wine that pairs perfectly with most meat dishes but can also easily age for another eight years.
