Caliterra Winery is one of Chile's finest wineries. The name Caliterra is a corruption of "La Calidad de la Tiera," which literally translates to "the quality of the earth." Caliterra's founder, Eduardo Chadwick, is a trusted Chilean soil. His vision is to produce superb wines sustainably, focusing on what the soil has to offer. By identifying the best grape varieties in each location, Caliterra has become a leading winery. Since 2004, the company has completely changed course. Only grapes are now grown in-house, allowing Caliterra to influence the exceptionally high quality for which it is known.
The vineyards of the Caliterra winery
The grapes for the Caliterra Reserva Chardonnay are grown on a special vineyard in the Casablanca Valley, a wine region located an hour from the capital, Santiago. The Santa Marta vineyard in question is relatively close to the ocean. This allows the grapes to receive the necessary coolness, which benefits the quality of the grapes. The Caliterra Reserva Chardonnay is lightly aged in oak, creating a subtle fullness. Chilean Chardonnay wines are known for their aromatic character, and this is also true of Caliterra Reserva Chardonnay. Instead of a fuller oak aging, only a portion of the asap undergoes light oak aging. This allows Caliterra Reserva Chardonnay to retain its rich and ripe aroma. Fresh tropical fruit greets your nose as soon as you pour this white wine. Refreshing citrus completes the aroma. The oceanic influence is clearly present. The palate is surprisingly full, while retaining the necessary fruity notes. You'll taste pineapple and ripe melon, as well as hints of peach and nectarine. A mild vanilla note is easily detectable.
