Steenberg: A legacy of top-class wines

Steenberg is not only known for its Bubble Sauvignon Blanc but also boasts the distinction of being the oldest farm in the stunning Constantia Valley. Since its founding in 1682 by Catharina Ras, it has made its mark on the South African wine world. Originally known as Swaaneweide for its graceful Spoorwiek geese, Steenberg's location amid cool, sea-facing slopes and majestic granite ridges has earned it a global reputation for producing exquisite Cape wines. Using its state-of-the-art winery, the estate creates some of South Africa's most celebrated wines, including the Steenberg Bubble Sauvignon Blanc. Traditional methods are emphasized in the creation of Steenberg Bubbel Sauvignon Blanc. The grapes are carefully hand-picked and then gently pressed whole to avoid the extraction of bitter phenols. This attention to detail continues during fermentation, which takes place at low temperatures in stainless steel tanks for three weeks. After this initial fermentation, the wine is carefully stabilized and prepared for secondary bottle fermentation, which lasts three months and gives Steenberg Bubbel Sauvignon Blanc its characteristic effervescence.
