Vintage Report

The 2021 vintage in Northern Italy is considered excellent with a score of 97 points. The wines show impressive structure and freshness due to ideal growing conditions.
Forget Champagne. Put down your bottle of Prosecco and keep the cork on that bottle of Spanish cava. Here's the main contender that, thanks to pure craftsmanship, can beat all three: Franciacorta. The Italian answer to the huge successes of Champagne and cava. Monzio Compagnoni's version excels in authenticity. Definitely worth a try.

The Italian wines from Lombardy

For this wine, we travel to Lombardy. This region in northern Italy is considered not only one of the richest in Italy, but also in all of Europe. The difference compared to the southern regions, for example, is striking. With vibrant cities like Milan, Bergamo, Berscia, and Como, Lombardy is also incredibly popular with tourists. The breathtaking scenery is also fantastic. Countless vistas with quintessential Italian scenes on the horizon. However, Lombardy also has another major asset: the Franciacorta.

Franciacorta: the Italian champagne

Champagne is world-famous. This sparkling wine from the eponymous region in northern France has captivated wine drinkers for centuries. However, in the 1970s, Franciacorta arrived: the Italian equivalent of Champagne. Developed by the man behind Ca del Bosco, it is now produced by several leading wineries, including Monzio Compagnoni. This winery is situated in the hills of Franciacorta and has been housed in a medieval farmhouse dating back to 1400 since its founding.

What does Monzio Compagnoni Franciacorta Brut taste like?

The similarities with Champagne are numerous. In addition to the classic Méthode Traditionelle, Monzio Compagnoni Franciacorta Brut also uses Chardonnay grapes. After the second fermentation in the bottle, the juice is aged for an impressive 60 months before leaving the cellars. The 60-month wait pays off handsomely once the champagne cork leaves the bottle of Monzio Compagnoni Franciacorta Brut. Brace yourself for a frenzy of sultry peach, crisp apple, and a hint of toast. The mousse feels soft on your taste buds, so soft, you'll want another sip of Monzio Compagnoni Franciacorta Brut. And another. And again, until you're left with an empty bottle of Monzio Compagnoni Franciacorta Brut.
