(W)EINDJE, the wine Eindhoven drinks! 2024

For this edition, a high-quality Blauer Zweigelt was selected from Weingut Hagn , a family-owned winery in Lower Austria">Lower Austria known for generations for its flawless style and precision in the vineyard. The estate uses modern cellar techniques, yet respects tradition, always prioritizing freshness and terroir expression.

Vineyards and region

The wine comes from Austria, from Niederösterreich, where Weingut Hagn has been active for generations in the region around Mailberg.

  • Region: Lower Austria, one of the most important wine regions of Austria.
  • Climate: Continental climate with warm summers and cool nights, which produces ripe fruit and retains fresh acidity.
  • Soil: Calcareous and loess-rich soils that contribute to elegance and fine structure.

The combination of warm days and cooling nights gives Blauer Zweigelt its characteristic balance between fruit and freshness.

Vinification and maturation

The vinification is focused on fruit expression and drinkability.

  • Fermentation: Temperature-controlled fermentation to preserve the fresh red fruit.
  • Maturation: Maturation in stainless steel tanks to keep the pure character of the grape central.

By not adding a dominant wood influence, the wine remains light-footed and accessible, exactly as intended with this style.

Grape composition

Blauer Zweigelt – Lower Austria
100% Blauer Zweigelt. This grape is known for its juicy cherry aromas, soft tannins, and lively acidity.

Tasting notes and serving suggestions

In the glass, the wine displays a bright ruby red color. The nose opens with aromas of ripe cherry and red fruit. On the palate, it is smooth and fresh, with soft tannins and a light spicy note. The finish is pleasant and fruit-driven.

  • Serving temperature: Drink this wine preferably at around 14–16 °C to allow the fresh fruit and smooth structure to come into their own.

  • Dishes: Pairs well with light meat dishes, pasta with tomato sauce, or a classic appetizer platter.
