A beautiful dessert wine from Portugal, this Dona Helena Moscatel. This wine is produced by none other than Coop. Sto. Isidro de Pegões, a well-known name when it comes to top Portuguese wines. The cooperative collaborates with several winegrowers to create exquisite wines. Under the guidance of winemaker Jaime Quendera, they produce fantastic wines from the Moscatel de Setubal region. In recent years, the winery has expanded significantly with modern winemaking techniques and improvements in the vineyards. All this has resulted in even more pure wines, and you can taste that in their dessert wine, this Dona Helena Moscatel.

The old vineyard of Dona Helena

Nestled in the heart of the Moscatel de Setubal wine region in Portugal, lie the Dona Helena vineyards. These vineyards are filled with the Moscatel grape, which thrives in the perfect climate. The vineyards are bathed in sunshine, allowing the harvest to ripen easily. However, there's also a pleasant coolness, thanks to the ocean breeze. This fresh breeze provides the perfect coolness during the warm summer season. Once the harvest is ripe, the bunches are brought in small crates. After pressing, this Dona Helena Moscatel is aged for an impressive five years in Kline wooden barrels. American oak is used, which adds depth to this dessert wine.

Full and creamy sweet this Dona Helena Moscatel

Chill it first, as that gives it more intensity. Opening the bottle had us on the edge of our seats. It smells wonderfully of orange, caramel, and toffee. In the glass, it has a light brown color with an orange sheen. Aromas of honey, orange, and fresh figs. Ripe and robust, with a lovely sweetness! On the palate, this Dona Helena Moscatel has lovely nuances of peach, candied orange, baked apples, and a lovely hint of honey.
