Our Review
Carmenet Reserve Buttery Chardonnay, California, United States
The Carmenet Reserve Buttery Chardonnay is exactly what you expect when you're craving a full-bodied, creamy Californian Chardonnay. This is one of those wines you recognize immediately: rich, soft, and with that characteristic buttery style that connoisseurs love. Not a subtle, crisp Chardonnay, but a wine that focuses entirely on roundness and comfort.
This is a wine you choose when you fancy something full, soft, and convincing.
Origin: California
The grapes come from various vineyards in California, including Lodi, a region known for its ripe and approachable style.
- Warm climate: ensures fully ripe grapes and a full structure.
- Selection of vineyards: provides balance between fruit and body.
These conditions result in a Chardonnay with power and ripeness.
Grape and vinification
Chardonnay – California
Chardonnay is the grape for full-bodied, oak-aged white wines, and here it receives a distinct Californian interpretation.
The wine is fermented in American oak barrels and then undergoes malolactic fermentation. This process converts the fresh malic acid into softer lactic acid, which creates that characteristic creamy and buttery texture. Subsequently, the wine ages in oak for another 3 to 9 months, depending on the barrel.
Character and style
In the glass, you immediately see the pale golden color typical of this style. The aroma is full and inviting with notes of vanilla, butterscotch, and toast, complemented by ripe tropical fruits such as pineapple and peach. On the palate, the wine is round, soft, and creamy, with clear oak influences that provide extra depth.
This is one of those Chardonnays you don't analyze, but simply enjoy.
