Apostelhoeve Cuvée XII 2023, Limburg, Netherlands
The Apostelhoeve Cuvée XII 2023 is perhaps the most recognizable wine from the Netherlands. This is the wine with which many people first discover how good Dutch wine can be. What makes Cuvée XII so popular? The combination of fresh acidity, ripe fruit, and a hint of spice creates a wine that always hits the mark, whether you're enjoying it on the terrace or at the dinner table.
This is not a difficult wine, but rather one you'll happily pour again and again.
Origin: Sint-Pietersberg, Maastricht
The vineyards are located on the southern slopes of the Sint-Pietersberg, the hotspot of Dutch viticulture.
- South Limburg: best wine region in the Netherlands.
- South-facing slopes: optimal sun exposure for ripening.
- Calcareous soils: provide fresh acidity and elegance.
This combination creates wines with tension and balance.
Grape and vinification
Müller-Thurgau – Sint-Pietersberg
Brings freshness and accessible fruit.
Auxerrois – Sint-Pietersberg
Provides roundness and softness.
Pinot Gris – Sint-Pietersberg
Gives structure and depth.
Cuvée XII is a blend of these three grapes, with each variety playing its own role. Vinification focuses on freshness and balance, ensuring that the character of the grapes and the terroir are preserved.
Character and style
In the glass, the clear, pale yellow color immediately stands out. The aroma is open and inviting, with white fruit, citrus, and a subtle spiciness. On the palate, the wine is fresh and lively, yet rounded enough to remain smooth. The finish is clean and refreshing, making you automatically want another sip.
This is one of those wines that always works, whether you're sitting on the terrace with friends or serving a light meal.
