The Petit Verdot grape is often used to add color, structure, and tannin to wine. This makes it a fantastically interesting grape that, when fully ripe, adds beautiful extra dimensions to the wine. However, reaching full ripeness is also a major challenge for Petit Verdot. This unique grape is only ripened in truly warm, sunny years. In terms of flavor, the grape is spicy, full-bodied, and complex. The Monastrell grape is also used for this beautiful red wine. This grape is distinguished by its high-quality tannins, which give red wine a long lifespan.
