Description

This Col di Sasso is a wine made from 70 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 30 percent Sangiovese. A prized wine for many, as it regularly wins awards at international wine fairs. And not surprisingly, this Col di Sasso Banfi is truly outstanding for this price range! The grape ratio is just right, with the Cabernet providing plenty of power and the Sangiovese adding depth and smoothness.

A top estate in Tuscany

Banfi is one of the top estates in the Tuscany region. The vineyards are situated between the Orcia and Ombrone rivers, south of the picturesque town of Montalcino. The vineyards are entirely planted with a single grape variety, including Sangiovese, Merlot, Pinot Nero, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay. Total production is 600,000 bottles per year, of which forty percent are sold in Italy. The remaining sixty percent are sold in eighty countries worldwide.

A special blend for this Col di Sasso

The Col di Sasso from Castello Banfi is a unique blend of two grape varieties: the exotic Cabernet and the local Sangiovese. The grapes are planted in the rockiest part of the vineyard. These grapes require careful management due to the poor soil conditions. The Sangiovese gives the wine fullness and roundness, while the Cabernet provides fruit and backbone. This works perfectly, combined with a subtle oaky note.

What does the Banfi Col di Sasso taste like?

On the nose, this Col di Sasso Banfi boasts aromas of blackcurrant, vanilla, cherry, blueberry, and a hint of spice and licorice. The palate is equally impressive, full and complex with a rich character. But above all, this Col di Sasso Banfi is juicy and delicious to drink. A lively juice with lovely fresh acidity that keeps it from being too heavy. It pairs perfectly with meat-based appetizers like tortelli with ragout, as well as less complex dishes like grilled meats or beef carpaccio with cherry tomatoes and Parmesan.
