The 2022 vintage from the Central Coast region has been rated 92 points by Robert Parker, indicating excellent quality. Thanks to its early-ripening character, the wine is already wonderfully approachable and ready to drink.

We're so fortunate to have had the opportunity again this year to acquire this beautiful Bernardus Chardonnay from the Sierra Mar Vineyard. Only 90 bottles of this delicious wine are brought to the Netherlands each year, and a total of 200 cases are produced for distribution worldwide. The grapes for this Chardonnay come from a single vineyard, the Sierra Mar Vineyard. These vineyards, planted by winemaker Gary Franscioni, are situated on a hilltop in the Santa Lucia Highlands.

The Bernardus winery has been a staple in our extensive selection for years. Each Bernardus wine is a true gem, making it indispensable. The Bernardus winery was founded by Mr. Ben Pon. Indeed, that sounds quite Dutch. Mr. Pon was an importer of fine car brands in the Netherlands for many years. This bon vivant wanted to drastically change his life and founded this fantastic winery, prioritizing the production of premium wines. And he succeeded!

The aroma and taste of the Sierra Mar Vineyard Limited Edition

The Bernardus Chardonnay Sierra Mar Vineyard has been aged in oak for over 15 months. The grapes for this gem are, of course, all harvested by hand to ensure only the finest juice is used for this wine. And they certainly used that finest juice at Bernardus! Thanks to the long oak aging, the color is a deep golden yellow. The aroma is truly unique. The aromas of apple and pear interplay beautifully with hints of orange blossom, caramel, and even a touch of petroleum. The taste is full, thick, and very diverse. Initially, we immediately recognize the Bernardus Chardonnay style, which is later transformed by distinctive nuances of candied orange peel, cream, cinnamon, and nutmeg. A perfect combination with the tropical fruit. The finish is intense and long. Truly a mouthful. This Chardonnay Bernardus Sierra Mar Vineyard is a Chardonnay for the discerning Chardonnay drinker. What complexity!
