When you think of Austrian wines, it's hard to ignore it: Gruner Veltliner. It's rightfully the national grape of this Alpine country. Almost one in three grapes is Gruner Veltliner. It was precisely for this reason that the Gruber family decided to launch their new project based on this beloved wine. While searching for new locations, they stumbled upon the centuries-old Schloss Maissau castle. The old caretaker, who still does the necessary chores, gave the tour. Despite the dilapidated character—particularly of the vineyards—the Gruber family decided to take the plunge, and Schloss Maissau was founded in 2006.

The Gruber family is committed to organic viticulture. They are doing everything they can to achieve this certification. The Grubers achieved this after just one vintage—quite a feat! They started working with the Gruner Veltliner vineyards and successfully restored Schloss Maissau to its former glory. The caretaker was overjoyed! The 5 hectares of vineyards are dedicated to the national pride, Gruner Veltliner. However, by carefully considering the geological conditions, each Schloss Maissau Gruner Veltliner wine develops a unique character. This Schloss Maissau Weinviertel Gruner Veltliner is the house's "standard" Gruner Veltliner.
