2023 was een goed oogstjaar in Oostenrijk, gekenmerkt door een warme en droge zomer. Dit resulteerde in rijpe druiven en aromatische witte wijnen met een goede balans en frisse zuren.

For Schloss Maissau wines, we travel to Weinviertel, a wine region in the northeast of this Alpine country, situated above the capital, Vienna. Austria is famous for its numerous castles, in addition to winter sports. As the name suggests, Schloss Maissau is also a castle, where wine was produced in centuries past, though this had not been done for a long time until the start of the project in 2006. The castle's caretaker, who was still performing various tasks at the time, was overjoyed when the Gruber family drove up the impressive driveway! This family, with a strong reputation in the wine industry, will restore the castle to its former glory, including its vineyards.

The castle is already 1200 years old, yet the Grubers managed to transform it into a magnificent winery in less than fifteen years. They didn't need to embark on this project for commercial gain: it was already thriving thanks to the other wineries. This was a passionate project, which is also the key to their delicious wines, such as Schloss Maissau Ried Steinwandl Gruner Veltliner. Planted in precisely the most beautiful locations, the Gruner Veltliner, thanks to the geological composition of the soil, has a broad flavor profile, including notes of fresh apple, invigorating citrus, and a hint of white pear. A striking note of subtle herbs is reminiscent of typical alpine meadows.
