What an impressive wine this Saint Clair Sauvignon Blanc from the heart of the Marlborough wine region is! Immediately after harvest, the grapes are pressed quickly to minimize skin contact. This makes the wine less aggressive and much softer, and you can taste that immediately.

A pioneer in wine growing

Saint Clair Estate was founded in 1978 by Neal and Judy Ibbotson. This winery remains in their hands today. The estate is named after James Sinclair, who was responsible for the first settlements in Blenheim, New Zealand, which is also the home of the winery on the South Island. The family business is among the pioneers of viticulture in Marlborough, and hence the connection with pioneer James Sinclair was quickly established. Saint Clair owns over 270 hectares of vineyards in Marlborough on the South Island and in Hawke's Bay on the North Island. The Sauvignon Blanc grapes are sourced from a selection of vineyards primarily located in the lower Wairau subregion. This is what Saint Clair considers the best sub-region of Marlborough for Sauvignon Blanc, producing wines with enhanced expression. Grapes were quickly transported to the winery and immediately pressed to minimize skin contact. After cold settling, the juice from each batch was fermented at cool temperatures using selected yeast strains. Each batch was assessed for quality, and only the finest components were selected for this premium blend.

An expressive fruity wine this Sauvignon Blanc

This gives it a particularly expressive aroma, practically leaping out of the glass. Intense aromas of gooseberry and tropical fruit. The intensity of the nose continues on the palate. Plenty of fruit, plenty of flavor, berries, nettle, floral notes, exotic aromas, and a long finish. Exceptionally beautiful acidity and a hint of lemon. The wine is perfect paired with fish dishes, or simply enjoyed on its own.
