Vintage Report

The Roussillon region recently achieved an excellent score of 94 points in the vintage charts. This indicates a harvest of outstanding quality for white wines from this region.
We're such huge fans of Lafage wines. For years, these wines have been a staple in our selection. This beautiful southern French winery has a rich and long history, yet remains family-owned. Today, Jean-Marc Lafage and his wife Eliane are at the helm of Domaine Lafage. The estate is nestled between the azure Mediterranean and the mighty Pyrenees, in the far south of France, between Perpignan and the coast. The estate boasts 140 hectares of vineyards on predominantly chalky soils. With this wide range of vineyards, Lafage creates wines for every taste, from beautiful basic wines to gourmet delights.

White wine from Muscat and Viognier

One of Lafage's gems is this Lafage Côté Floral. It's made from Muscat and Viognier, 90% Muscat and 10% Viognier for a slightly rounder character. The vineyards for this delicious white wine are situated on several terraces. Here, the grapes receive ample sunshine without direct radiation, allowing them to retain a wonderful freshness. They also receive plenty of cooling from the Mediterranean breeze. When the grapes reach their peak ripeness at the end of the growing season, around the end of September, they are hand-packed into small crates. Each bunch is carefully selected for pressing. After the various varietals are pressed, vinification takes place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature, after which Jean-Marc and his wife will create the beautiful blend.

The taste of the Lafage Cote Floral

Well, we can taste the harmony that Jean-Marc and Eliane share in this wine. The color is pale yellow with a fresh green hue. Swirling the glass with the Cote Floral reveals delightful aromas of tropical fruits and fresh spring blossoms. This aroma is very appealing. The taste is superb! Fresh with a perfect roundness. Here, we certainly notice the harmony of the winemaking couple. Beautiful nuances of citrus and tropical fruit are complemented by a mild floral undertone. This makes this wine perfectly suited to oriental dishes, but also to traditional Dutch asparagus.
