2021 was an exceptional year for the production of this Icewine, as this wine cannot be made every year. The harvest requires specific freezing conditions, indicating a very special and successful vintage.

We've all heard of ice wine, but we haven't seen a Moldovan ice wine yet. But it's a king's wine, a showpiece, a treat, or whatever you prefer. This dessert wine is truly special. Moldovan viticulture dates back far, to the twelfth century. Even then, wines were being made in the southern tip of this beautiful country. The Stefan Voda region is known for its rich soil structure and delicate climate, allowing for the cultivation of numerous grape varieties. This dessert wine is made from the estate's oldest vines, which produce both Muscat and Traminer.

Completely manual harvest at minus 6 to 8 degrees

This dessert wine is absolutely top-notch because it can't be made every year. Often, the harvest is lost, but in a truly exceptional year, an Icewine can be made. The harvest is therefore brought in at night at six to eight degrees below zero. A night frost must therefore pass over the harvest before it can be harvested entirely by hand. This requires meticulous work, as only twenty percent is suitable for feeding this dessert wine.

The aroma and taste of Purcari IceWine

Keep this bottle in the refrigerator, but take it out beforehand. This allows the wine to warm slightly, releasing more flavor. Upon pouring, a beautiful golden yellow color appears, clinging to the glass. The thick structure loosens, revealing an overwhelming bouquet of exotic fruit, light spices, and a touch of peach. A vigorous swirl of the glass reveals the oak-aged character of this dessert wine, as the aroma also reveals notes of vanilla and a touch of toast. The palate of this Purcari IceWine is full and complex, with nuances of ripe yellow fruit, oak, vanilla, and velvety-soft notes of exotic fruit. What a treat, and a wonderful way to try a Moldavian dessert wine.
