A red Pinot Noir can be so delicious, and this one from Les Salices is truly exceptional. The Pinot Noir grapes are sourced from the finest vineyards in the Languedoc. The Les Salices winery knows how to make wine like no other. Quality is paramount throughout the entire vinification process, resulting in outstanding wines.

The beginning of Domaine Les Salices

Pinot Noir originates in Burgundy, France's northernmost region for grand red wines. But interesting wines can also be made from this grape variety outside of Burgundy, for example, in the Azille district near Carcassonne. Pinot Noir thrives in a variable climate where the warmth of the sun alternates with cooling winds. The Tramontana wind, which blows from the northwest here, provides that necessary cooling. In the 1980s, Francois Lurton, the youngest member of the Bordeaux winemaking family, discovered the potential of this varietal in southern France. He purchased the historic Domaine Les Salices, located near the fortified town of Carcassonne. The estate lies in the heel of Italy. It was once a resting place for pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem or Constantinople. Today, it houses a magnificent château with an exceptional, modern winery. The grape varieties used here are Verdeca, Negroamaro, Malvasia Nera, Viognier, and Primitivo. By harnessing the potential of the various terroirs, the passionate Francois Lurton consistently succeeds in crafting varietal wines of outstanding quality, including this delicious Viognier.

Manual harvest for this Pinot Noir

The grapes are hand-harvested and rigorously selected, after which this Les Salices Pinot Noir is gently pressed. Perfect juice of the highest quality, and that's evident in the aromas: lovely hints of morello cherries and black currants framed by smoky notes. The palate is very smooth and ripe, with abundant black and red fruit and subtle aromas of vanilla, smoky wood, and spice.
