Vintage Report

2023 was an excellent vintage for Bordeaux, rated 92-94 points by Robert Parker (barrel tasting). Conditions were very favorable, resulting in wines with great potential.
This wine series is from the world-renowned Baron Philippe de Rothschild winery. The estate is known for its Bordeaux wines of the highest caliber. But beyond the big names, the Rothschild family also wanted to produce wines for every budget. They found happiness in the Pays d'Oc region near Limoux and Carsassonne. The climate there was perfect for making wines from a single grape variety. Hence, this wine series bears the name Les Cépages, which means "made from a single grape variety." In each wine, you can clearly taste the characteristics of the grape, resulting in a very pleasant mouthfeel.

Rothschild's old Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard

Standing in the south of France, we see the beautiful vineyard hills of Baron Philippe de Rothschild. Here, Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grow in a warm Mediterranean climate. The abundant sunshine allows the grapes to ripen easily in the Pays d'Oc wine region. The mountain breeze provides some cooling, allowing the harvest to ripen slowly and evenly. The soil is a treasure trove for this Cabernet Sauvignon, as it contains a variety of elements such as clay, limestone, and gravel. This explains the robust harvest that can be reaped each year. Pure, honest, and genuine—these are the best words to describe the grapes and the wine.

The aroma and taste of the Cabernet Sauvignon

Pouring this red wine reveals a beautiful deep purple color with a subtle red shimmer. With our noses raised above the glass, we can sense the wine was made by Baron Philippe de Rothschild. It boasts an exceptionally pure aroma of blackcurrant, cherry, and blueberry, with hints of spice. On the palate, this red Cabernet Sauvignon offers a broad flavor, revealing ripe black fruit, intense tannins, and a touch of chocolate. The finish is smooth and elegant, with a beautiful ripeness that lingers right through to the last sip.
