The relatively mild climate of the Pfalz helps the grapes to ripen fully.
- Location / origin: Pfalz, in southwest Germany. Villa Wolf is based in Wachenheim on the Mittelhaardt.
- Climate & influences: The Haardt mountains shelter this part of the Rhine valley. The warm, relatively dry conditions give the grapes time to develop ripe aromas.
The fruit remains recognizable due to the use of previously used wooden barrels.
- Wood aging: The wine matures in used oak, including small barrels. This helps soften the tannins and adds a subtle smoky nuance, without much flavor from new wood.
The character centers on the combination of red fruit, freshness, and fine tannins.
- Pinot noir – Pfalz: This grape, also called Spätburgunder in Germany, provides juicy cherry aromas and a relatively light, supple structure.
