This beautiful Ciro Classico from the Librandi winery is one you'll remember. This top Italian red is made from the Gaglioppo grape, which offers abundant aromas and ripeness. Thanks to its thick skin, the grape is well-suited to the warm climate. The heat is tempered somewhat by its location against the Sila Mountains. This unique location provides the necessary cooling for the vineyards as the sun sets.

Quality wines for four generations

The Librandi winery is a family of winegrowers who have been lovingly cultivating their vineyards for four generations. The family manages over 155 hectares of vineyards. All the grape varieties used come from this vineyard. The estate is divided into numerous small plots, each with a different soil or microclimate. This ranges from cooler areas with looser soil to warmer locations with exposed clay hills. Initially, only grapes were grown, but in the 1950s, the family members decided to establish their own winery and, consequently, to bottle the wines themselves.

Librandi's showpiece

This Rosso is undoubtedly the showpiece among Librandi's classic wines. It's a classic red wine made entirely from Gaglioppo grapes. It's made as a smooth and juicy wine and aged exclusively in stainless steel. The grapes are sourced from the commune of Ciro itself. Once ripe, the grapes are carefully harvested in late September and early October. This is when the fruit is at its peak. A short fermentation is used to avoid making the wines too heavy or harsh. The goal is for the wine to remain supple and drinkable young, and Librandi has achieved this admirably.

It's a beautiful wine, with aromas of black fruit, blackberries, spices, pleasant cinnamon, and cloves, framed by vanilla from the oak barrels. Because this Ciro red wine from Librandi undergoes long oak aging, it develops rich flavors of black fruit, oak, a touch of vanilla, and a touch of spice. The Gaglioppo grape also gives it a long, powerful finish, with soft nuances of black fruit.
