The 2019 vintage in Languedoc received an excellent score of 91 points. The wines from this year are described as early maturing and are currently very approachable.

A beautiful red blend from the Languedoc. This Domaine Castelnau La Croix Rouge is made from Merlot (44 percent), Cabernet Sauvignon (31 percent), and Syrah (25 percent) grapes. These red grape varieties ripen beautifully on the beautiful slopes of the Languedoc. The climate is excellent, and thanks to the stony slopes with clay and limestone soil, the grapes also develop special characteristics. The result is a seductive wine with a juicy flavor.

The beginning of Domaine Castelnau winery

Between Béziers and Montpellier lies the Domaine de Castelnau estate. The estate has a long history dating back to the 13th century. Winemaker Christophe Muret and his wife have been at the helm since 1997. Over the years, they have expanded the estate from 57 hectares to 100 hectares. Currently, the focus is on Chardonnay, Viognier, Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. With their expertise and expertise, they bring exceptional wines to the market by combining this with state-of-the-art production methods. What's striking about this is that the wines are still affordable, and sustainability is a top priority. When the grapes are optimally ripe, they are carefully and selectively harvested. At the winery, they are destemmed, gently crushed, and pressed. Fermentation then takes place on the skins, allowing the wine to extract additional color and flavor. Finally, the wine is aged on its own lees in oak barrels. This aging process gives La Croix Rouge beautiful oak notes, giving it a full character.

This beautiful red blend has enticing aromas of black cherries and plums, with a slightly smoky note thanks to the oak aging. The aroma is also reminiscent of olive tapenade. The palate is juicy with notes of blackcurrant, violets, and spicy notes. This wine pairs perfectly with meat dishes or a cheese board.
