Vintage Report

The 2019 vintage in Chile has been exceptionally rated with a Robert Parker score of 96. The wines from this vintage mature early and are already very accessible for drinking.
The Escudo Rojo winery will make any wine drinker's mouth water. It's a renowned winery, home to some of the most fabulous wines for decades. We find this hardly surprising, considering Baron Philippe de Rothschild is the founder of this winery. The Rothschild name is world-renowned; even if you're not a wine drinker, you'll recognize this well-known family name thanks to their involvement in Formula 1 and banking. Baron Philippe de Rothschild originated in Bordeaux but has since expanded worldwide. His daughter, Philippine de Rothschild, took over the Chilean division, a feat she has been very successful in.

The Cabernet Sauvignon of the Chilean vineyards

The choice of Chile wasn't entirely coincidental. Several grape varieties, originally from France, had already proven themselves in Chilean vineyards. Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, and Chardonnay thrive there. This is primarily due to the consistent, somewhat Mediterranean climate. Rothschild purchased vineyards in the Maipo Valley, a leading region in Chilean viticulture. The location is excellent. The proximity to the ocean provides coolness, while the Andes to the east act as a natural barrier.

Impressions of Escudo Rojo Cabernet Sauvignon

Craftsmanship par excellence. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are harvested by hand. This ensures that only the finest bunches are selected for Escudo Rojo Cabernet Sauvignon. After fermentation, the juice is aged for 6 to 8 months in French oak barrels. This gives Escudo Rojo Cabernet Sauvignon an impressive aroma and flavor, similar to that found in Bordeaux. Take a moment to smell this exquisite rosé wine. You'll smell black fruit and dark cherries. When you swirl Escudo Rojo Cabernet Sauvignon generously in your glass, you'll smell toast, roasted almonds, and coffee. The flavor is intense and powerful. A palette of black fruit and hazelnuts envelops your taste buds. A touch of mocha, tobacco, and leather makes Escudo Rojo Cabernet Sauvignon incredibly exuberant.
