Vintage Report

For the 2023 vintage in South Australia, no official Robert Parker scores are available yet (rated as NT - Not Tested). The wines from this year still need to be sufficiently tested to give a general assessment.
The Yalumba Unwooded Chardonnay bears the label of the renowned Y-Series wines. It has already been named the best Chardonnay outside Europe. A well-deserved accolade, because this Chardonnay is a magnificent example of a quality wine. It is a wonderfully fresh and ripe Chardonnay, as it has not been aged in oak.

The oldest family wine company Yalumba

In 1849, British-born Samuel Smith purchased thirty hectares of land in Angaston, Australia, and planted his first vines there. He subsequently named the land Yalumba, meaning "all the land around." 160 years later, Yalumba Winery is the oldest family-owned winery in Australia. Currently, the sixth generation runs the winery with a modern approach. For example, in 1970, Yalumba was the first winery in the world to release Riesling wines with screw caps. Years later, they have a wide range of quality wines and have won numerous awards.

The harvest and taste of Yalumba The Y series Unwooded Chardonnay

The grapes for this white wine are carefully selected and harvested in February/March. The winemaker is committed to ensuring the wine is balanced during blending. The bottle of this Chardonnay features the Cape Barren Goose, a symbol of an endangered species. Over the years, many birds and animals have sought refuge in the Yalumba sanctuary, a land dedicated to indigenous nature restoration. Fermentation using natural, or "wild," yeast, naturally present in the vineyard, has helped shape this wine; think minerality, grapefruit, and pineapple flavors. With this Chardonnay, Yalumba proves they can make a fantastic Chardonnay in Australia without "classic" wood aging. A full-bodied, fruity white wine with a yellowish color. Aromas of grapefruit and pineapple are evident on the nose. The Yalumba Unwooded Chardonnay is fresh and juicy on the palate with a lovely minerality and a pleasant, light oiliness. It has good balance and a pleasant finish.
