Vintage Report
2023 was een goed jaar voor witte wijnen in Oostenrijk, met rijpe druiven en wijnen die zowel fruitigheid als structuur tonen. Hoewel het groeiseizoen uitdagingen kende, resulteerde het in kwaliteitswijnen.
Austria at its very best. While most Austrian white wines put Gruner Veltliner on a pedestal, Durnberg takes a different approach. A refined Weissburgunder. Bold and exciting. However, thanks to the expertise of the Durnberg winery, the Durnberg Falkenstein Weissburgunder Reserve is a highly successful wine.
The Durnberg wine from Austria
Durnberg Winery was born out of pure friendship. Three friends, Christoph Korner, Matthias Marchesani, and Georg Klein, decided to establish a winery. Each is responsible for a different aspect of this beautiful Austrian winery. Christoph is the winemaker, Matthias is the wine connoisseur, and Georg is Durnberg's marketing genius. This golden trio has ensured that Durnberg wines now have an excellent reputation worldwide. The Durnberg winery is located in the Weinviertel region, approximately 70 kilometers from Vienna. The village of Falkenstein is the setting for its impressive white wines. Like the vast majority of Austrian vineyards, Durnberg has primarily planted Gruner Veltliner, making it the queen of Austrian wines. However, Durnberg also chose another local star: the Weissburgunder. This is the Austrian equivalent of the refined Pinot Blanc from Alsace. What does Durnberg Falkenstein Weissburgunder Reserve taste like?
When the Weissburgunder grapes are deemed ripe enough, they are harvested. Vinification follows a method borrowed from Burgundy. After pressing, the juice is aged "sur lie" in both stainless steel tanks and oak barrels. This gives Durnberg Falkenstein Weissburgunder Reserve greater complexity and depth. Both the aroma and the taste are remarkable. A very distinctive Austrian wine of high quality. Surprisingly creamy on the palate, thanks in part to the light oak aging. This gives this Durnberg Weissburgunder more flavor than a regular Pinot Blanc. Its elegant character is striking, clearly expressed on the back of the tongue.Product details
