Delicious, delicious, this 12 e Mezzo rosé from the heart of the Salento wine region. You don't often see rosés from Salento, but they are always superb. Ripe, full-bodied, and very soft with a refined structure. Winemaker Cosimo Varvaglione is unparalleled in his ability to craft a beautiful, light rosé from the Negroamaro grape. Thanks to the light pressing, hand harvest, and light aging, this 12 e Mezzo rosé is soft and round.

Refined light color of this 12 e Mezzo rosé

As mentioned above, Negroamaro grapes are grown in the warm Salento region. Thanks to the vineyard's ideal location, the grapes receive ample sunshine, cool sea breezes, and abundant nutrients from the rich soil in which they are planted. After the manual harvest, which begins quite early in the season, the grapes are harvested in the morning. Very early, while the grapes are still dormant, they are taken to the press. A quick pressing gives the grapes their light pink color.

Why 12 e Mezzo?

The name 12 e Mezzo comes from the alcohol content, which is only twelve and a half percent, unique for a wine from Salento. Winemaker Cosimo Varvaglione knows how to time everything perfectly, allowing the wine to ferment long enough to reach 12.5% ABV. This allows this rosé to retain its unique style and natural freshness. The aroma translates into a fresh nose of light red fruit, a touch of grapefruit, red candy, and a hint of ripe strawberry. The soft carbonation on the palate makes for a pleasant wine, with abundant raspberry and strawberry notes, as well as a hint of citrus. The finish is fresh with light, pleasant acidity, abundant red fruit, and some spring blossoms and grapefruit. For this price point, a true Cosimo Varvaglione masterpiece.
