We've now managed to compile a wide selection, but our passion for discovery continues to grow. This led to a new journey of discovery last spring. We couldn't wait to travel to one of our favorite wine regions. Where time seems to stand still, yet innovations follow one another in rapid succession. Welcome to Tuscany, the birthplace of Sangiovese wines.

Wines from Tuscany

Tuscan wines: who doesn't know them? Almost every European can still get them before they're gone. The wicker-covered bottles with the iconic rooster on the wrapper. Many an Italian in the 1990s proudly displayed the entire collection on their shelves. Authentic: definitely. Atmosphere-setting? Absolutely! Taste: doubtful. For a long time, the simple, mass-produced wines were what epitomized Tuscan wines. However, Tuscany has (and had!) much more to offer. Besides the simple local wines made with native grape varieties, Tuscany is also known as the Bordeaux of Italy, thanks in part to the high concentration of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc plantings.

The wines of Tenuta Sette Ponti

Nestled in the rolling countryside amidst cultural cities like Arezzo and bustling Florence, you'll find the Tenuta Sette Ponti winery. As soon as we approach the driveway, we're immediately captivated by the grandeur of this estate. The Sette Ponti family has owned it since the 1950s. It was Antonio Sette Ponti's father who purchased the estate from none other than Margherita and Maria Cristina Savoia-Aosta, of the House of Savoy, who formed Italy's royal family until 1946. So, the wines of Tenuta Sette Ponti are not only incredibly delicious—they also have a regal touch.

Buy Tenuta Sette Ponti wine

Dedication and passion are the key words for Tenuta Sette Ponti's wines. The family leaves nothing to chance. While the wines may not have a DOC classification, they are every bit as good as Bolgheri wines. Using classic grape varieties like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc, the Sette Ponti family creates true gems.
An elegant blend with a Tuscan touch. This Oreno Toscana is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot grapes, each uniquely enhancing the other. The flagship wine of the Italian winery Tenuta Sette Ponti.

A combination of the best grape varieties

The grapes come from south-facing vineyards with an average age of 75 years. The vineyards are located in the eponymous town where the estate is situated, through which the Oreno River flows. At an altitude of 250 meters, the vines enjoy the excellent climate. The soil is rich in limestone and characterized by its abundance of stones.

The vineyard is worked entirely by hand. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand, carefully selecting only the very best. Because only the best is good enough for the winemakers of Tenuta Sette Ponti. The grapes are collected in crates weighing no more than 15 kilos and transported to the winery. Here, the grapes are sorted again for quality on the sorting tables. They then undergo a gentle pressing and fermentation process for 25 days at a controlled temperature. The wine is aged in French oak barriques for 14 months, after which it is time to bottle. The wine is then given time to further develop in the bottle—12 months to be precise.

The overwhelming aroma of Oreno Toscana

When creating the blend, the winemakers consider the best qualities of each grape variety. Merlot provides structure, Cabernet Sauvignon adds class, and elegance comes from Petit Verdot. This ruby-red wine from Tenuta Sette Ponti has an overwhelming aroma that is full and complex, with hints of ripe blackberries, chocolate, and balsamic. It has a rich, dynamic palate, beautifully accentuated by oak, and a beautiful, long finish.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0594/9358/0879/files/tenuta-sette-ponti-oreno-toscana-2021_7513885376591.webp?v=1772530958
tenuta-sette-ponti-orma-toscana
Tenuta Sette Ponti Orma Toscana
Orma means "footprint" in Italian. It's the result of the land of Antonio Moretti Cuseri, owner of the Tenuta Sette Ponti winery, and the extensive work required to achieve the highest possible quality. The Orma Toscana wine is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. Thanks to its location near the Tyrrhenian Sea, the climate is perfect for Tenuta's premium wines. The sea provides much-needed cooling during the hot summers. The soil is clayey with deep layers of gravel and sand, giving it unique characteristics.

Manual harvest for Tenuta Sette Ponti Orma Toscana

The Sette Ponti estate has been a Moretti family property since the 1950s, when Antonio's father, Alberto, purchased the first 50 hectares directly from Princesses Margherita and Maria Cristina of Savoia-Aosta. Located in the Chianti region, between Arezzo and Florence, it takes its name from the number of bridges that cross the Arno River between the two cities. The first of these bridges, the Buriano Bridge (13th century), can be seen in the background of Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa.

The grapes are harvested entirely by hand around August and September. This harvest takes place in several rounds, with only the perfectly ripe grapes being picked. Some bunches remain in the hands for a few more days and are picked at a later date. This ensures that only the best grapes are retained for the blend. Fermentation takes place in large steel vats at a controlled temperature for 15 to 18 days. Maturation takes place in French oak barriques for 18 months. After this, the wine is blended and bottled. The wine then rests in the bottle for a further 12 months.

A full, complex wine from Tenuta Sette Ponti

The result is a deep purple-red wine with intense aromas of ripe red fruit, blackberries, plums, herbs, and balsamic vinegar on the nose. This is complemented by a touch of black pepper, coffee, and light hints of tobacco. It's a full-bodied wine, complex, layered, and elegant, with intense, deep red fruit. The fruit and herbs continue into the velvety, lingering finish.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0594/9358/0879/files/tenuta-sette-ponti-orma-toscane_12521.webp?v=1770370430
