Here, you'll find the old Stoneburn vineyards, planted in 1989. It's a beautiful setting, resembling a painting as you walk around. The name Stoneburn comes from the pebbles found among the vineyards. These stones and pebbles retain a great deal of heat and contribute to the superb quality of the harvest. The pebbles originate from the old river bed that once flowed through here. This gives the vineyards a unique soil, and this white wine is incredibly flavorful.

Stoneburn's Best Winemaker

Stoneburn wines are made by none other than James Macdonald, a winemaker who grew up among the vineyards of Marlborough. He was brought up with the lifestyle and winemaking, having gained some of his experience from his father. James studied at Lincoln University in Christchurch, four hours south of Marlborough, and gained experience in countries such as France, Italy, and the United States. But thankfully, he's back in his own country and proudly makes Stoneburn wines.

Fresh and very powerful this Stoneburn Sauvignon Blanc

The Sauvignon Blanc grapes receive everything they need: plenty of sunshine, allowing them to ripen slowly but perfectly, along with the refreshing ocean breeze. The wind provides the perfect cooling for the harvest in Marlborough. This results in a long and balanced growing season, and at ideal ripeness, all the bunches are harvested in the early morning. As quickly as possible, the bunches are transported in Klien crates to Stoneburn, where they await a gentle pressing. To preserve purity and freshness, the wine is aged in steel barrels. After a long period of aging, the wine is ready to drink. We open the bottle and are overwhelmed by the freshness of citrus fruits and gooseberries. In the glass, it has a light yellow color with a green sheen. It flows from the glass, offering impressions of tropical fruit balanced with light green herbs like mint. On the palate, it leaves the palate feeling fresh with a rich minerality, citrus fruits, and gooseberries. Later, as the wine rolls around in the mouth, it also reveals nuances of green herbs, a touch of pepper and, of course, the right dose of tropical fruit.
A fragrant wine made entirely from Pinot Noir. This blue grape isn't the easiest to grow and is very susceptible to rot and fungal diseases. It certainly presents its own challenges, but New Zealand, and Marlborough to be precise, proves to be an excellent location for this grape variety. At the Stoneburn vineyards, the grape thrives in the dry and warm climate. The grapes exhibit lovely acidity, and together with the fruity notes, it creates a delicious red wine.

Wood aging for Stoneburn Pinot Noir

For this wine, we travel to New Zealand. This relatively young wine country has grown into a world-class producer. Various wines are now produced here, the most well-known being Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. The Stoneburn vineyard was established in 1989 in the heart of the Wairau Valley in Marlborough. The vineyard has continued to develop, resulting in consistently higher quality. The soil consists of rocky loam, which gives the grapes a rich flavor. The wines are fresh, lively, and beautifully balanced.

When the Pinot Noir grapes are fully ripe, they are harvested partly by hand and partly by machine. The hand-picked grapes are then steeped in small vats until the fermentation process is complete. The remaining fruit is fermented in stainless steel tanks. To extract the color and tannins, the fermentation is pumped over twice a day at temperatures up to 32 degrees Celsius. Some of the fermented juice is transferred to barrels to complete the fermentation process in new oak. The remaining portion is aged for ten months in French oak barriques. The wine is then blended and bottled.

The smell and taste of Stoneburn Pinot Noir

This delicious red wine has rich and complex aromas. We detect red plums, strawberries, and red berries. On the palate, it has a silky, balanced flavor. Fine, spicy tannins linger prominently. This juicy, full-flavored Pinot Noir is perfect for any occasion.
A fresh and lively wine from the Stoneburn vineyards. This white grape is described as highly aromatic and has distinctly sweet notes. And this white wine certainly delivers. The result is a balanced, top-quality wine.

Hand harvest for Stoneburn Gewurztraminer

For this wine, we travel to New Zealand. This relatively young wine country has grown into a world-class producer. Various wines are now produced here, the most well-known being Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. The Gewürztraminer grape is also increasingly being planted here.

In the early morning, when it's still pleasantly cool, the ripe Gewürztraminer grapes are hand-picked. At the winery, the grapes are then destemmed, crushed, and lightly pressed. The resulting juice is then transferred to stainless steel vats for temperature-controlled fermentation. During this process, the fruity character is central, as it must be clearly expressed. Afterward, the wine is harvested from the lees to preserve the fresh fruit. It is then blended and finally bottled.

Enjoy this tropical Gewurztraminer
4

As soon as we pour the Gewürztraminer, we immediately enjoy fresh and vibrant tropical aromas.
