This wine is classified as Grand Cru Classe en 1855, which is typically reserved for wines from the St. Estèphe, St. Julien, Pauillac, and Margaux regions. There are five wines outside these regions that are classified as Grand Cru Classe en 1855, and Château de Camensac is one of them. Produced in the Haut Médoc wine region, the wine has a long history, but its fame came in 1964 when the Forner brothers took over the winery. Having worked at major wineries around the world, the brothers brought with them a wealth of knowledge, both broad and exceptional. They brought this expertise to bear and began working on the old soils. And yes, it has been a never-ending success story, as they continue to produce the finest wines from the Haut Médoc to this day.

The old vineyard of Chateau de Camensac

Today, winemaker Eric Boissenot produces the wines for Château de Camensac. He has 75 hectares of vineyards planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes. The grapes thrive in a wonderful climate, with abundant sunshine and cool breezes from the Gironde River. This results in a long and balanced growing season, allowing the grapes to draw strength from the rich soil structure. The old, thick stems, some 50 years old, now produce a top-notch harvest that is renowned worldwide. All the grapes are harvested by hand, which explains the unparalleled purity of this red wine.

Wood aging for the Camensac Haut Medoc

Once all the grapes have been harvested, winemaker Eric Boissenot creates the blend. A daunting task, but it's a breeze. The entire wine then matures for at least 18 months in oak barrels. Half of the barrels used are new, giving this Camensac extra power. This isn't just any glass of Haut Médoc; it's comparable to a top-quality Pauillac or Margaux. The aroma develops a wide-ranging aroma of black fruit, spices like pepper, cinnamon, and bay leaf, complemented by vanilla and oak. The taste is classic, full, and robust with a smooth finish. Beautiful flavors of plums, cherries, berries, cedar, lavender, and refined herbs. This magnificent Château de Camensac Grand Cru Classe even has aging potential for 15 years! Already a promising red wine.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0594/9358/0879/files/chateau-de-camensac-haut-medoc-2016_10510.webp?v=1770120786
