This beautiful winery was one of the first to recognize the region's progressive character. As a result, the family settled in Jumilla as early as 1870. They were among the first to plant the refreshing Sauvignon Blanc grape variety. This grape thrives thanks to its perfect position in the sun. The bunches also receive plenty of refreshment from the ocean breeze and the wonderfully cool nights. The Bodegas Bellavista winery has dedicated itself entirely to this wine region, and this is evident in all their wines: abundant richness, finesse, and traditional winemaking techniques.

Cambil Bay's old Sauvignon Blanc vineyard

The vineyards for this white Cambil Bay are now quite mature. They don't produce many bunches, but they are very powerful. These are therefore cultivated with great love by the family. They opt for both modern and traditional winemaking techniques. This makes it a wine of the future, in our opinion. The Sauvignon Blanc bunches enjoy a perfect climate between the warmth of the sun, the coolness of the wind, and nighttime temperatures. This makes the growth process very slow and balanced. The bunches can draw abundant nutrients from the rich soil structure, and when the harvest is ripe, it is harvested during the night.

This Cambil Bay Sauvignon Blanc is wonderfully fresh.

Pouring this Cambil Bay Sauvignon Blanc reveals a beautiful, clear color with green highlights. It flows from the glass, offering hints of exotic fruits like papaya, mango, citrus, and a touch of freshly cut grass. The lovely, vibrant, and especially refreshing aroma carries through to the palate. A beautiful blend of flavors, tantalizing the palate with light acidity of grapefruit and green apple. As this Cambil Bay Sauvignon Blanc settles on the palate, we also detect hints of orange, gooseberry, and lime. The price is unbelievable; we checked it ten times. Pure luxury, beautiful minerals, lightly aged wood, and all for less than 10 euros. It's a white wine with a classic style, a nice nod to Sancerre or Pouilly Fume wines.

Family business Bodegas Bellavista

In the heart of the Jumilla region, we find the old winery and family-owned Bodegas Bellavista. Founded in 1870, this winery is highly progressive in its winemaking techniques. They were among the first to plant the refreshing Sauvignon Blanc grape variety here. And considering the circumstances, that was not a bad choice. The sun shines brightly here, and thanks to the large elevation range, from 400 to 950 meters, the grapes enjoy plenty of warmth but also the necessary refreshment. Bodegas Bellavista has dedicated itself entirely to this wine region, and this is evident in all their wines: abundant richness, finesse, and traditional winemaking techniques.

The vines of Cambil Bay

The vines of this white Cambil Bay are already quite mature. The yield is low, but the quality is all the greater. The Bellavista family pours a lot of love into it, combining modern and traditional techniques. The Sauvignon Blanc bunches enjoy the warmth of the sun and the cool breeze at night. This ensures a slow and balanced growth process. Thanks to the rich soil structure, the bunches are also able to draw plenty of nutrients from the soil. At optimal ripeness, the grapes are carefully harvested. Afterward, the juice is lightly aged in oak, which completes its perfection. So beautiful, unprecedented!

A pure luxury after wood aging

As soon as we opened the bottle, we smelled a soft aroma of minerals, white fruit, flint, and a touch of charred wood. In the glass, it was clear with a beautiful green sheen. Nosing the glass, our eyes were wide open: pure refinement with light white fruit and a hint of citrus. A quick swirl revealed the wood and a volcanic note. The palate was wonderfully fresh with lovely soft and pleasant acidity. Minerals clung to the cheeks, accompanied by hints of gooseberry and lime. The finish was powerful, with a soft, long finish from the oak barrel. A world-class wine!
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0594/9358/0879/files/cambil-bay-sauvignon-blanc-fume_13220.webp?v=1770372426
bellavista-tempranillo-la-mordida
Bellavista Tempranillo La Mordida
The greatest surprises sometimes lie in the smallest corners, and that's certainly the case with Bellavista Tempranillo La Mordida. We stumbled upon this wine almost by chance during one of our wine trips. We love wandering through European wine countries; this is precisely how we discover the best of the best. During our Iberian trip, we visited all the Spanish wine regions, both well-known and lesser-known. This included the province of Murcia, located in southeastern Spain. An extremely hot province, but known for its excellent wines. A small spoiler: this Bellavista Tempranillo La Mordida also turns out to be a fantastic glass of red wine.

An Appassimento wine from Spain

Murcia is an undiscovered gem among Spanish wines. And that's a shame, because all the elements needed to make great wines are present in this southern region: a sun that works overtime, a beautiful terroir, and a pleasant coastal breeze. Bellavista also saw that they had the best conditions behind them. The Spanish classic Tempranillo was therefore planted in the best-situated spots in Murcia; where all the conditions perfectly converge. However, the unique selling point of this wine lies in the vinification. Before the grapes are pressed, a portion of the bunches are dried to give it a more intense and concentrated character. This technique was borrowed from Italian Appassimento wines, but apparently also applies incredibly well to Spanish vineyards.

Impressions of Bellavista Tempranillo La Mordida

This Appassimento technique in Bellavista Tempranillo La Mordida gives the wine a unique and distinct character. Thicker, firmer, almost jammy. Plenty of dark fruit and temperament in every sip of Bellavista Tempranillo La Mordida. On the palate, the wine is warm and sultry, like falling into a warm bed. Perfectly balanced on the finish, where fruit and oak battle for dominance.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0594/9358/0879/files/bellavista-tempranillo-la-mordida_13264.webp?v=1771588912
bodegas-bellavista-cambil-bay-monastrell
Bodegas Bellavista Cambil Bay Monastrell
Secretly, this Monastrell from Cambil Bay winery is climbing to the top. A truly phenomenal glass where every aspect seems to be right. A very intense aroma already gives a lot away; this will be pure delight. Your taste buds will recognize numerous distinct aromas: deep blackcurrant, freshly picked blackberries, and dried Mediterranean herbs. Yet, this Cambil Bay Monastrell also has something exciting, almost challenging. Good tannins alternate with leather. The temperament hangs subtly in the glass. After all, it is a Spanish wine.

Monastrell wine from Spain

The Monastrell grape is gradually becoming a major grape on the Iberian Peninsula. This success definitively ends the perennial reign of Tempranillo and Garnacha, as Monastrell dominates more and more vineyards. Monastrell is the Spanish equivalent of the French Mourvedre, a grape primarily found in the southern half of France. In recent decades, Monastrell has also begun making significant inroads into Spanish vineyards. Especially in the Jumilla region, a wine enclave near Murcia, Monastrell has produced some of the finest wines. Although Jumilla only recently received an official classification from the government, the winery behind Cambil Bay Monastrell has been active in these regions for over 150 years.

Buy Cambil Bay Monastrell wine

The driving force behind Cambil Bay Monastrell is the exciting winery Bodegas Bellavista, a leading force in Jumilla wines. Since 1870, they have been producing wine from the epicenter of Jumilla, making them one of the oldest wineries in this Spanish wine region. Because the vineyards in Jumilla are situated at altitudes up to 950 meters, all the necessary factors for successful wines are present; this is precisely why Monastrell thrives. During the day, it receives ample sunshine, while at night, the bountiful bunches enjoy the fresh Mediterranean breeze.
