Beaulieu Vineyard

Buy or order Beaulieu Vineyard wine

Beaulieu Vineyard was founded in 1900 by Georges de Latour and his wife, Fernande de Latour, when they purchased four acres of land in Rutherford. Legend has it that Fernande exclaimed, "Quel beau lieu," when she first saw the land. This literally translates to "what a beautiful place," and from this, Beaulieu Vineyard takes its name. De Latour became known for importing phylloxera-resistant vine rootstocks from Europe to rebuild the recently devastated young California wine industry. After Prohibition, when most wineries were forced to close, Beaulieu Vineyard expanded its operations by selling sacramental wine to the Catholic Church. After the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, De Latour dedicated himself entirely to research and innovation to bring out the best expression of Rutherford Estate in wine. He named this wine the Private Reserve, which at the time was the Latour family's private wine. In 1940, Beaulieu Vineyard released its first Private Reserve vintage, naming it "Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon," a wine destined to become Napa Valley's first cult wine. Today, Beaulieu Vineyard stands as one of Napa Valley's most historic Grand Cru wineries, setting the standard for quality and innovation in Napa Valley winemaking. It holds a unique place in California winery history and possesses one of the most collected American Cabernet Sauvignons in the world.
