In the Pedernal Valley, nights are very cool and the afternoons are very warm due to its position relative to the sun.

The high quality of the young winery Pyros

In 2008, Myndert Pon, founder of Bodegas Salentein, visited the Pedernal Valley in San Juan and was inspired by its stunning beauty, untamed nature, and diverse terroir. This inspiration, along with his vision to showcase the Pedernal Valley's excellence, led to the creation of Pyros Wines, the first world-class wine collection reflecting the Pedernal Valley's unique terroir.

Pyros is an outstanding collection of unusual and exclusive wines from Argentina. All the grapes for these wines come from the exclusive Pedernal Valley, a deep and isolated canyon nestled in the stunning foothills of the Andes in San Juan Province.

Twelve months of wood aging for this Malbec

Thanks to the ideal climate, beautiful Malbec grapes are produced, hand-picked and rigorously selected. The grapes undergo a cold maceration at ten degrees Celsius for 72 hours. Fermentation then follows at a controlled temperature of 23 degrees Celsius, with the skins that float to the surface being immersed daily. Finally, maceration takes place after fermentation, with a total maceration period of approximately 28 days. The wine is then transferred and aged in oak barrels for twelve months.

Winemaker José Morales creates an incredibly beautiful wine. The aroma is rich with notes of black fruit, spices, vanilla, tobacco, oak, and a hint of plum. The palate is complex and full of intense blackberry, plum, and cherry flavors, complemented by earthy notes and vanilla. On the back of the palate, this Pyros Barrel Selected Malbec has nuances of oak, tobacco, and a hint of smoke. And it sells out every year, making this wine truly a king's wine. For this Pyros Single Vineyard, the Malbec grapes are sourced from the finest vineyard in Pedernal Valley. At an altitude of 1,400 meters above sea level, the conditions are ideal for a top-notch Malbec harvest.

Unique conditions for wine growing

The relatively new winery Pyros was founded by Mijndert Pon. He discovered Pedernal Valley in 2008, Argentina's youngest wine region, on the border between Mendoza and San Juan. He was immediately inspired by the valley's extreme beauty, untamed nature, and diverse terroir. This led to the creation of Pyros Wines. The region lies at an altitude of 1250 to 1500 meters. It is an isolated valley far from civilization. This is what makes this area so unique. There are no (plant) diseases, it is rugged and deserted. There is no other wine region in the world that can compare to this area. The soil is at least 480 million years old, which is 400 million years older than the soil of the Andes. Moreover, Pedernal is the only wine-growing region in South America with limestone formation at high altitude, which is exceptional and ideal for viticulture.

This 100 percent Malbec is the most unusual, elegant, and expressive example of a high-altitude Malbec from Pedernal Valley. It's made with grapes from Block No. 4 of the Firestone estate. The soil in this parcel is extremely rocky, primarily limestone and flint. This is very beneficial for the vines.

Enjoy the Pyros Single Vineyard Limestone Malbec

Winemaker José Morales creates a superb wine every year that will last a lifetime. After being harvested by hand, the wine is aged for 18 months in wooden barrels, 50 percent American oak and 50 percent French oak. This oak aging contributes to the creation of a top-notch Argentinian wine. The aroma reveals impressions of juicy fruit, black currants, and complex aromas of vanilla and leather. The palate is complex and rich, with plenty of black fruit, vanilla, tobacco, spices, pepper, and much more! 94 points Decanter. That speaks volumes!
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0594/9358/0879/files/pyros-single-vineyard-malbec-pedernal-valley_8223.webp?v=1770110766
pyros-valle-de-pedernal-chardonnay
Pyros Valle de Pedernal Chardonnay
Chardonnay fans can get excited. This stunning example from Pyros will tantalize your senses. A nose overflowing with complexity. A flavor that dominates. Jasmine, ripe pear, Granny Smith, soft peach, and distinct minerality. Perfect with light dishes like poultry or fish. But the Pyros Valle de Pedernal Chardonnay also shines when enjoyed on its own.

Pyros wines from Argentina

Pyros wines have a Dutch touch. It was none other than Mijndert Pon (yes, the one from Bodegas Salentein) who discovered the unique vineyards in the Pedernal Valley. This isolated valley is located about a two-hour drive north of Mendoza. Thanks to its altitude of up to 1500 meters, its unique microclimate, and its chalky terroir, Mijndert Pon decided to start producing Argentine wines here in 2008 under the name Pyros Wines.

A Chardonnay wine from Pyros

Look, the blue Malbec is the undisputed star of Argentine wines. But Argentina also has a white grape that's slowly becoming a national star: the Chardonnay. Thanks to the altitude of the vineyards, the Chardonnay thrives. Mijndert Pon planted this all-rounder in the vineyards of Pedernal Valley, at an altitude of 1300 meters. Here, the sun shines brightly during the day, while a cool breeze drifts over the vines at night. Nevertheless, it never gets too hot in the vineyards; a maximum of 20 degrees Celsius. This is precisely what gives Pyros Valle de Pedernal Chardonnay the perfect combination of refreshing and a full-bodied white wine.

Buy Pyros Valle de Pedernal Chardonnay wine

The Pedernal Valley terroir features limestone, minerals, and flint, giving the full-bodied Chardonnay bunches a unique character. After harvest, the wine is fermented using a modern method. However, approximately one-third of the wine is aged in oak, split 50/50 between American and French oak. This gives Pyros Valle de Pedernal Chardonnay that touch of "je ne sais quoi," making it incredibly distinctive.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0594/9358/0879/files/pyros-valle-de-pedernal-chardonnay_13027.webp?v=1770371110
pyros-vineyard-block-n4-malbec
Pyros Vineyard Block N4 Malbec
Phew, another Argentinian gem. Pyros has long been known for its powerful and robust Argentinian wines, but this Pyros Vineyard Block N4 Malbec exceeds all expectations. A spirited Malbec with aromas of thick, dark fruit, fragrant tobacco, and powerful spices. A glass of wine that continues to develop once you've taken a sip. A true celebration of tobacco, leather, pepper, vanilla, and dark berries unfolds on the palate. With a sparkling afterparty on the finish. Argentina at its very finest.

The wines of Pyros

The rugged label immediately transports us to the mountainous Andes. This western region of Argentina has developed into a wine region par excellence. One of the pioneers here is none other than Mijndert Pon. Yes, indeed, the Dutch businessman who made his name in cars. This fine man is also the one who founded the illustrious Bodegas Salentein in Valle de Uco three decades ago. At the age of 75, a few years before his death, he decided to embark on a new project: Pyros. Located in the desolate and remote Valle de Pedernal region, the conditions in this valley are more than unique, and here too, he planted the pride of Argentine viticulture: the Malbec grape.

Buy Pyros Vineyard Block N4 Malbec wine

The vineyards for this impressive Pyros Vineyard Block N4 Malbec are located at an altitude of up to 1500 meters, creating perfect conditions for viticulture. The grapes for this Argentinian wine are grown in a select plot, No. 4 Piedra de Fuego. This plot boasts unique terroir. But only after the lengthy and complex vinification process does the unique selling point of this red wine emerge: perpetual oak aging. The precious sap is aged for a full 16 months in a balanced combination of French and American oak.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0594/9358/0879/files/pyros-vineyard-block-n4-malbec_13238.webp?v=1770372426
