It's a wine perfectly balanced, with a richness and fruity balance.

Quality wines from Librandi

The Librandi family has been working the vineyards in the Calabrian village of Ciro Mirana for four generations. In the early 1950s, Antonio Librandi began bottling wines independently here. He aimed to establish a modern company, with the goal of raising awareness of the wines of the Ciro region. Brothers Antonio and Nicodemo Librandi were then tasked with significantly modernizing the company. They certainly did so over time, while maintaining the balance between tradition and innovation. Today, the Librandi name is synonymous with quality wines that are highly regarded both nationally and internationally.

A beautiful Chardonnay from Critone

To produce a good and beautiful Chardonnay in the far south of Italy, you need extensive knowledge of the terroir, the correct harvest time, and winemaking. Although Chardonnay is a highly adaptable grape, it's not always easy. The Librandi family, based in this region, knows better than anyone how to approach this. And that's essential for producing this wine. The Cirtone Bianco is made up of ninety percent Chardonnay grapes and is supplemented with ten percent Sauvignon Blanc. The wine owes its name to the main vineyard where the grapes originate: Critone. The Chardonnay grapes develop a pleasant acidity because they are planted in calcareous clay soil. The grapes are also harvested early, in late August or early September. After being harvested by hand, the grapes are quickly pressed and fermented in stainless steel. The ten percent Sauvignon Blanc gives the wine some extra freshness and a lovely fragrant, grapey character.
Librandi crafts unique wines from both local and international grapes. And this lovely sweet wine completes the range. A real icing on the cake.

Highly regarded wines for four generations

The Librandi family has been working the vineyards located in the Calabrian village of Ciro Mirana for four generations. Initially, the family only grew grapes, but in the early 1950s, Antonio Librandi began bottling wines independently. Since then, the name Librandi has been synonymous with quality wines. The vineyards benefit from a fresh breeze from the Ionian Sea. Wind, sun, and the highly calcareous soil guarantee fresh and mineral-rich wines. Today, Paulo Librandi is elevating the wines to a higher level. Without losing sight of the region's ancient traditions, he produces modern wines from both international and indigenous grape varieties. Librandi wines are highly regarded both nationally and internationally.

The local Mantonico grape is used for this Le Passule Passito. This unique grape is used in the Calabria region for both dry and sweet wines due to its high acidity. The grapes for the sweet wines are carefully harvested during October. After harvesting, they undergo a two-week drying process to build up sufficient sugars for producing a good sweet wine. After drying, the wine is fermented in oak barriques from the Allier region. Finally, the wine is aged in the barriques for another six months, resulting in a particularly complex sweet wine.

The flavors and aromas of Librandi Le Passule Passito

On the nose, we detect notes of pineapple, vanilla, peach, and nectarine. It has a powerful and smoky aroma. Then it's time to taste the wine. An intense, rich, and powerful sweetness dominates. Good acidity and a beautifully restrained sweetness complete the wine. Ideal with fresh fruit such as pineapple, apricot, or peach.
Calabria, an authentic slice of Italy. Where the landscape is dominated by beautiful fruit trees, picturesque villages, and, of course, breathtaking vineyards. A remote region, even by Italian standards. Calabria is a region where tranquility reigns, yet where many adventurers can indulge themselves. For a long time, Calabria seemed to be the neglected child of the Italian wine industry. This remote region faced fierce competition from central and northern Italy. Moreover, the infrastructure, both physical and digital, was substandard for a long time. Fortunately, in recent years, Calabria's local character has become increasingly popular, resulting in Calabrese wines also gaining popularity among Dutch wine drinkers.

The Librandi vineyards in Calabria

Librandi is a true family business. Brothers Antonio and Nicodemo Librandi are currently in charge of the daily management. They have a vision to modernize, improve, and innovate the winery. For example, they studied under the world-renowned Italian oenology professor Donato Lanati. This has helped Librandi claim a leading role in the Calabrian vineyards. They are fully committed to the DOC Ciro region and the newest DOC Melissa region. It is partly thanks to the Librandi winery that Calabrese wines are now also in high demand throughout mainland Europe.

Impressions of Librandi Efeso Calabria

Looking for a unique Italian wine from Calabria?
