This winery is located in the rolling hills of western Sonoma County, in the Russian River appellation. Here, a perfect microclimate prevails for growing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. Only 10 miles from the Pacific Ocean, the vineyard is influenced by the cooling breezes and drifting sea mist. That is why Marimar chose this privileged location to produce the finest wines and uphold the Torres family name. Marimar Torres moved to California in 1975. After two years of searching, she purchased the land and began planting the vineyard in 1986. Today, 30 hectares are planted with Chardonnay and 30 hectares with Pinot Noir.

The low yields of La Masia Chardonnay

The vines are kept very short to allow the wind to pass through. The vines face east, ensuring the Chardonnay grapes receive ample sun. Yields are very low, but the harvest that arrives is of outstanding quality. Marimar Estate produces a total of only 15,000 cases, divided between Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Incidentally, it gets its name from the Spanish word "La Masia" for "farmhouse." This beautiful farmhouse is designed to resemble a classic Catalan farmhouse. When the grapes arrive at the farm, they are inspected again, and only the very best bunches are used in this top-quality Chardonnay. After pressing, this La Masia Chardonnay undergoes a long oak aging period of up to 12 months in the Marimar Estate cellars. It can fully develop, and the wine is of outstanding quality.

Full and very powerful this Marimar Chardonnay

Anyone who enjoys full-bodied, oak-aged Chardonnay wines will be absolutely delighted with this one. Upon pouring, we see a dark golden yellow color. The aroma is richly creamy with hints of peach, apricot, and a touch of vanilla. Swirl the glass vigorously, and we smell a distinct swath of cedar wood accompanied by some toasted nuts. The palate is wonderfully oily, abundantly creamy, and, of course, just the right amount of spice. On the back of the palate, lovely nuances of tutti frutti and apricot jam remain. The long finish completes the whole experience.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0594/9358/0879/files/marimar-estate-la-masia-chardonnay_1773.webp?v=1770046158
marimar-estate-la-masia-pinot-noir
Marimar Estate La Masia Pinot Noir
Marimar Torres, owner of this beautiful winery, traveled to California in 1975. She began a search for the very best vineyards in California, finding land in the rolling hills of western Sonoma County, in the Russian River appellation. The vineyards enjoy a perfect climate; with warm summer days and cool nights, the grapes ripen exceptionally well. The vineyards are located just fifteen kilometers from the Pacific Ocean. This influences the harvest, as the cooling breezes and drifting ocean mist add a special touch to the Pinot Noir grapes. Today, Marimar Estate has grown to 30 hectares, with a capacity of just 15,000 cases.

The name La Masia Pinot Noir

The red La Masia Pinot Noir from Marimar Estate has become a major wine and has received several international wine awards. The name La Masia comes from the Spanish translation of the word, meaning "farmhouse," and you guessed it, the Marimar Estate was built based on the ideas of a classic Catalan farmhouse. And it's striking, as the Marimar Estate does have some Spanish influences in California. The Don Miguel Vineyard - This sustainable vineyard, named after the late patriarch of the Torres family, is located in the Green Valley—the coolest, foggiest region of the Russian River Valley, just fifteen kilometers from the Pacific Ocean. Planted in the European style at a high density of over 2,000 vines per acre, yields are low and labor-intensive; however, the vines live longer, and the grapes develop better balance and concentration, as well as greater elegance and finesse.

Full and very powerful this Marimar Estate La Masia Pinot Noir

The Pinot Noir grapes are hand-harvested and rigorously selected. Upon arrival, the bunches are pressed directly, and the entire wine undergoes extensive oak aging. French oak is used, approximately half of which is new oak. This gives this red Pinot Noir even more power. In the glass, this wine erupts into a ruby red with beautiful clarity. The nose is captivated by hints of cherries and ripe red fruit, along with notes of rose petals, spices, and vanilla. The palate truly reveals the power of this Pinot Noir, full-bodied and complex with abundant red fruit and ripe spices. On the back of the palate, notes of orange, cedar, and a touch of smoke. What a superb glass of wine!
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0594/9358/0879/files/marimar-estate-la-masia-pinot-noir_1774.webp?v=1770046162
